Training is provided to employees of The Beacon Group at our state-of-the art training center in Roslyn, NY. These trainings are also available to staff of our agency partners at our facility in Roslyn, at the agency location, or remotely.

Beacon offers OPWDD core curriculum trainings and can also customize a training for your agency. Beacon’s most widely attended trainings include:

  • SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention): The program teaches to maintain self-control and train them to engage in proactive methods of positive behavior support.

  • Core Training Required by OPWDD (Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities). Provides various instructional required training set by OPWDD.

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): A lifesaving technique that keeps oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.

  • First Aid/AED: Learning how to prevent conditions from worsening until full medical treatment is available.

  • Diabetes Education: The training program covers diabetes control, prevention and other important issues related to this condition.

  • Fire Safety: Education on how to prevent and respond to a fire emergency and the required evacuation protocols.

  • Sexual Harassment:  Educates staff on how to identify sexual harassment, as well as the policy and procedures of how to respond to and report incidents of sexual harassment in the workplace.

  • Choking & Aspiration Prevention – teaches how to recognize signs of choking, how to perform the Heimlich maneuver, and how to avoid situations that can lead to choking and aspiration.

The Beacon Group does ongoing recruitment for Nursing, Direct Support Professionals, Speech – Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. We get requests for workers in all five boroughs of New York City and Long Island. Direct Support Professional

DSP help with activities of daily living, communication, personal care, feeding, transportation and socialization. The goal is to help the person with special needs live their best life by helping them acquire, maintain, and improve skills needed for them to stay in a safe environment and to participate in activities that are meaningful to the individual.

Nurses

Nurses provide specialized care to individuals with I/DD and special needs. They manage chronic conditions, coordinate medical appointments, manage medication, and other health/behavioral health interventions and personal care activities. They are part of the interdisciplinary care team and ensure that individuals receive culturally competent and effective health care.

Case Manager

A case manager is a human service professional who is responsible for assessing, coordinating, administering, and implementing services within an individual’s plan of care. Case managers work in a variety of settings and use their expertise to bridge gaps in services and to ensure that clients receive the resources and support they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
